OSCIL8
OSCIL8 was a music streaming service that Universal Media Group was looking to launch back in 2023. The product promised to remix popular tracks with binaural frequencies that would promote focus, relaxation or sleep.
The BRIEF:
OSCIL8 (pronounced like ‘oscillate’) was a pitch that I helped McCann win, alongside a Senior Designer and copywriter.
We developed three routes as part of the pitch, before designing a set of launch assets for Universal Media Group.
brand toolkit
OSCIL8’s brand toolkit was really cool. It energised the team from the off. Each mood state had its own visual identity, and the brand palette was suitably vibrant and punchy.

route 1
Route 1 explored pairing the mood state graphics with activities that could be associated with them.
Focus Rings set behind someone working at home, coming from a speaker in the background.
The Relax Loop while someone is meditating, or having a good stretch as they prepare for winding down.
The Sleep Bubble bathing someone sleeping in a calming purple light.
I did most of the retouching on this job, I loved it. I really enjoy making key visuals, and Photoshop is an app I’ve always been really strong in.
route 2
Route 2 was our graphic-based route. We looked at how type could behave to reflect a mood state. This was largely Karl’s (our Senior Designer) route, but I briefed some work into our content team, who then helped me put this animated board together.
I actually wanted to achieve something more kinetic than this, but that was out of my skillset and we struggled to get the content designer I wanted to have booked on this.
I was happy with our flat storyboards, though. Which is what we were briefed to do, rather than deliver animated concepts. To push the brief, though… I wish we could’ve had more of our content designer’s time.
route 3
Route 3 was largely my thinking. It was inspired by some work I’d seen on Instagram by an artist called SixNFive. His work resonated with the exploration we were doing with OSCIL8’s visual identity.
The idea was to visualise the idea of music putting us into a dreamlike state - thinking about how it can transport our mood and our minds somewhere else, collaborating with SixNFive to help land the execution.
I loved the idea of pushing the abstract when the idea of binaural sound waves boosting a mood state already felt like something extraordinary - playing with this idea of music transporting us somewhere ethereal.
Chosen route
Route 1 was the winner, following a successful pitch that commanded extremely positive responses to all three routes.
With our brief for launch deliverables now firmed up, we got to work on crafting a series of social assets, expanding on our thinking from Route 1.
I did most of the photo selects and retouching, adding colour grading to pair with each mood state, as well as building out most of the social assets and storyboards.
